With over 50 seminars and plenty of free sessions over the two days, there’s a lot to pack in. To help with your conference planning we’re sharing our recommendations in a two-part blog. In Part 1 we highlight who is worth checking out from the main conference programme. These speakers and topics are at the forefront of L&D and are sure to generate plenty of discussion and debate. Coming next week, Part 2 covers what’s hot from the free learning programme.
Day 1 - 10 May
W1: Delivering Content to Create an Effective Brain-Friendly Learning Approach, Dr Itiel Dror
Despite it having a title reminiscent of some sessions at L&D conferences that spout neuromyths or pseudoscience, Dr Itiel Dror is a bona fide neuroscientist. His previous sessions that we’ve seen have been a delightful mix of hard science and practical application.
B2: Using Technology to Support Collaborative Learning, Raquel Rubio and Tiffany Poeppelman
Drawing on practical case studies from LinkedIn and the Intercontinental Hotel Group, this session promises to be both rigorous and thought-provoking. Digital tools have the capacity to enhance and drive positive learning conversations, but organisations face barriers when it comes to their successful implementation. We’re interested to hear how these two organisations have overcome the challenges and embedded collaborative learning into the heart of their learning strategies.

C1: Learning and the Future of the Professions, Daniel Susskind
Daniel and Richard Susskind’s book, The Future of the Professions, has garnered multiple accolades since it was published in 2015. E1: Decision-Making under Pressure, Vincent Walsh
We’ve said for some time now that L&D professionals need to leverage modern thinking about decision-making in order to design interventions that change behaviour, irrespective of whether learning has taken place – think ‘nudge’ theory applied in a business context. What better way to understand decision-making than to hear it first hand from Vince Walsh - Professor of Brain Research at UCL?

F2: Transitioning from Face to Face to Digital Learning, Andy Hurren and Brian Murphy
Brian Murphy, head of the award-winning L&D team at Citi Group, and Andy Hurren, Head of Learning at RWE Power, offer practical expertise in bringing the new digital consumer world into their organisations. This session promises to provide insight into how to make digital solutions part of the learning mix and we can’t wait to hear more.
G2: Designing a Future-Fit L&D Strategy to Support Long-Term Growth, Sarah Lindsell & Amanda Price
Getting inspiration for your own learning strategy should draw from the experiences of a wide range of organisations. In hearing about the practical experiences of Sarah Lindsell, Director of Global & UK Learning Technology & Transformation at PwC, and Amanda Price, Associate Director (Education, Training and Development) at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, we’re hoping to find out about both common and divergent approaches.
