I don’t often admit to being very excited (that’s just not cool), but I’m now counting down the ‘sleeps’ until I head to New Zealand at the end of March for a month's holiday.
The end of March also marks an exciting new chapter for GoodPractice. I am delighted to share the news that Owen Ferguson will take over the running of GoodPractice as Managing Director from 1st April. And incase you were wondering, this isn’t an early April Fools’ Day hoax!
In 2015, GoodPractice was acquired by Emerald Group. With their support, we’ve continued to grow. Emerald have helped us become established in Australia and we are well on track to deliver another record year of growth, turnover and profit. I couldn’t be happier that the acquisition has delivered our aspirations for customers, employees and shareholders.
Over the last two years, I’ve witnessed first hand just how much our leadership team have developed. Led by Owen, they are now more than ready to take GoodPractice forward. I helped found the company in 2000, becoming CEO in 2003. I have a (probably bad) habit of thinking of the business as if it’s one of my children. Following that analogy, it’s now a grown up 17 year old. It’s time for me to take a step back, and watch GoodPractice make its own way out in the world. However, like any good parent, I’ll be there in the background.
So - I’m not leaving. The growth we’ve seen over the last couple of years presents me with new challenges. It’s clear there is real potential for Emerald Group to do more in the HR and Learning Tech market. I’m keen to explore this further, and that’s what I plan to do on my return from holiday.
Months ago, I set myself the goal of having things wrapped up here at GoodPractice so that I could head off for six weeks (I’m squeezing in a week’s winter mountain leader training in the Cairngorms before NZ) safe in the knowledge that the business was ready for this new chapter. The team have exceeded all my expectations and GoodPractice is without doubt in the hands of the best leadership team and staff it has ever had.
The support and encouragement of the senior team at Emerald mean that I’ve got exciting challenges to return to in May.
With that, I’d like to wish Owen and the all the team at GoodPractice the very best for the future. All I need to do now is pack my climbing boots and Lonely Planet Guide to New Zealand.
